Our customer contacted us looking for a surfboard camera mount. The customer did not want to purchase a dedicated solution. He wanted to use the waterproof camera he already purchased. Having looked at several solutions he arrived at the following conclusion:
” There are companies marketing suction-based camera mounts for surfboards, but they come off (according to customer reviews).”

“The mount arrived as promised and I’m very happy with it. Have had it out in 2 to 3 ft surf and it hasn’t looked like coming off the board (wish I could say the same thing for me). I have a friend with a Go-pro who is now thinking of getting a SeaSucker because it is detachable. I have another surfing friend who already has a camera similar to mine and is thinking of getting one. My kayak friend is also interested (but I don’t think she’ll get one any-time soon).
The first few times I took it out I attached a leash to the mount in case it came off. The last time I went out I was very confident. I didn’t bother with the leash (the extra leashes are a pain to surf with). Since then, I’ve worked out a float system so if the mount does come off, I can easily retrieve both the camera and mounting system. The float is a $3 swimming pool noodle from Kmart. I cut it down with the right holes cut in – you’ll see it in 2 of the photos. It’s important to have a back up – if the mount comes off while surfing you lose the mount and the camera, and that’s no fun! Even the permanent surfboard mounts for the go-pro have a 2nd security mount with a leash to it in case the first fails.
Anyway, I recommend the SeaSucker camera mount for surfboards in surf up to 3 ft – and it might be fine beyond that (I’ll certainly be trying it out in bigger surf now that I have the float system worked out). The home-made float system is not essential, but I’d suggest it for people who want a ‘2nd line of defense against losing their camera and don’t want to muck around with leashes. The mount should suit anyone who has a camera (with a tripod mount) like a Go-pro, Sony Contour, Sony Action Cam, Olympus TG 1, Nikon AW 100, Sony TX 20, Canon , Panasonic FT 4, or Canon D 20.
