Porsche Cayman S 981 Bike Rack – Part 2
Porsche Cayman S 981 Bike Rack – The SeaSucker Talon
The SeaSucker Talon makes an ideal Porsche Cayman S 981 Bike Rack. As mentioned in our previous post making a simple change like rotating the fork mount 180 degrees can reduce the bike rack footprint. This change reduces the footprint of the SeaSucker Talon by approx. 76 mm.
In Peter’s case, it’s enough to allow him to mount the SeSucker Talon on the tailgate of his Porsche Cayman S 981 and the rear wheel did not obstruct the retractable spoiler.
The benefit of mounting the SeaSucker Talon on the tailgate is that it allows Peter to access to the boot with the bike rack installed. Peter also noted having the entire bike rack on the tailgate also improved bike rack stability.
Thanks again Peter for sharing your experience with us.

Isn’t mounting the SeaSucker on glass the preferred place since glass has the smoothest surface to work with and the mount will hold better???
I’m getting a Cayman S in Feb next year and this will work great.
Hi Doug,
Apologies for the late reply.
SeaSucker Vacuum Mounts work just as well on the glass as they do on steel, aluminium, fibreglass, carbon fibre and many other reasonably smooth and hard surfaces.
The advantage glass has over your car’s panels is durability.
With SeaSucker Bike Racks you have the freedom to mount the bike rack in many different locations.
With the Cayman S we worked with the customer to find a location that also allowed him to open the tialgate with the bike rack installed and bikes loaded.
By rotating the fork mount 180 degrees it provided an extra 80 mm of space which was enough to install the bike racks and bikes on the tailgate.
What was the overall height with the bike on top? I’m slightly worried about clearance.
Hi Winston,
Unfortunately we don’t have any height measurements, the photos and feedback were provided by our customer.
Having said this we can approach this from a different point of view.
We do know that mounting a bike on the tailgate using a fork mounted bike rack like the SeaSucker Talon creates the lowest vertical profile.
The only other bike rack setup that could further reduce the overall height would be a tow-ball mounted bike rack.
That would require fitting a tow-ball to the Porsche Cayman which I would imagine is not ideal
Therefore if we discount the tow-ball mounted bike rack the setup our customer came up a mounting location that minimised the overall height as much as possible.
Apologies for not being able to provide actual measurements.
Kindest Regards,
Chris
