Rail Mounted Boat Smartphone Mount
Using your Smartphone out on the water has many benefits. Therefore having a Rail Mounted Boat Smartphone Mount that keeps your smartphone secure yet is easy to use is critical. The RAM Quick-Grip Smartphone Mount – Extreme Edition is ideal for most circumstances however it requires adequate space for the SeaSucker Vacuum Mount to attach to. Never one to back down from a challenge, we investigated alternative mounting options. As most boats have grab rails we focused on a rail-mounted solution. After a bit of testing, we came up with the RAM Rail Mounted Boat Smartphone Mount – Extreme Edition.
Introducing our RAM Rail Mounted Smartphone Mount – Extreme Edition
As is often the case, the RAM Rail Mounted Boat Smartphone Mount – Extreme Edition was born out of several customer requests for a highly robust and fully adjustable smartphone mount. The smartphone mount had to withstand the marine environment.
We started with the RAM Torque Handlebar Mount. The Handlebar Mount accommodates popular handlebar diameters using snug fit inserts. The inserts also provide excellent protection for the handlebar or rail. The RAM Torque Handlebar Mount also utilises Nyloc Insert Nuts that prevent loosening. This provides a highly secure ball mount upon which we can build out this kit.
To ensure maximum stability with minimum vibration we also used the RAM 1.5″ Ball and Double Socket Articulating Arm. By using the larger diameter balls and double socket arm it provides greater arm grip strength. The RAM 1.5″ Balls are also rubber coated with the rest of the product made from powder-coated Aluminium. Adjusting the position requires loosening the integrated thumb screw you can easily adjust the position and the rotation of the smartphone cradle. We also recommend selecting the smallest arm length to suit your needs as this will minimise screen vibration.
And Finally, we used the RAM Quick-Grip Top Mounted Spring Cradle to ensure your smartphone remains tightly secured in the cradle. Inserting and removing your smartphone takes less than a second thanks to the top-mounted spring cradle.
We tested the RAM Rail Mounted Boat Smartphone Mount – Extreme Edition on our demo boat, the Haines Hunter 560F. As our boat has a 19 mm (3/4″) grab rail. Fortunately, the RAM Torque Medium Handlebar Mount has a snug-fit insert that suits the 19 mm grab rail perfectly. We could easily find various locations that would suit mounting a smartphone but we particularly liked the location in this photo. We performed the tests using RAM 1.5″ SMALL Double Socket Arm, this gave us plenty of adjustability whilst also ensuring the cradle doesn’t foul on the grab rail when you change cradle position.
