Caravan Roof Rack – The SeaSucker Board Rack
SeaSucker Roof Racks have solved many issues with cars that are not suitable for use with traditional bolt-on roof racks. Having said this, solving similar issues with Caravan storage and transport does not come along very often. Mark contacted us with a simple request, can we come up with a Caravan Roof Rack solution to transport a surfboard on the roof of his caravan. We accepted the challenge knowing we had many obstacles to overcome.
Caravan Roof Rack – Which SeaSucker Roof Rack to use?
SeaSucker manufactures two roof rack solutions with more to follow in the very near future. At present, we have the SeaSucker Board Rack and the SeaSucker Monkey Bars. The SeaSucker Board Rack is the most cost-effective option however this product has a fixed width of 795 mm. Therefore, the Caravan must have an unbroken surface area 795 mm wide. This area must be free of corrugations and obstructions, especially the area where the vacuum mounts make contact with the surface. On the outside of some caravans, are corrugations to provide strength and rigidity. This is typically found on older caravans. Furthermore, the outside of the caravan can be fitted with windows, vents, air conditioner units, aerials and all sorts of obstructions.
Caravan Roof Rack – The SeaSucker Board Rack
We started out by requesting photos of the caravan. After reviewing the photos we quickly agreed with Mark’s suggested location being the top left-hand corner of the roof. This area was ideal for the SeaSucker Board Rack. Furthermore, the surface was straight with no obstructions. And best of all, it was close to the roof fold along the top left-hand edge of the roof, where the roof meets the wall.
Several weeks later, Mark sent us these photos. The SeaSucker Board Rack is bearly visible in this photo with the surfboard strapped down. Since installing the Board Rack Mark has completed several long trips with no issues.
